It is the only cocktail in the canon invented in a novel and then adopted by the world.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFleming's version called for Kina Lillet, which no longer exists. Lillet Blanc is its closest living relative, and we cut it with Cocchi Americano to put back some of the quinine bite the original had and the modern bottling lost. Our own vodka sits underneath the gin rather than diluting it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis one is not a freezer drink. There is no water built into the recipe, so it needs the water that ice gives it: stir it over ice until it is properly cold, then strain into a chilled coupe with a thin slice of lemon peel. Stirring is a serve, not a build. There is still nothing to measure and nothing to add.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVesper Lynd was a double agent.
